In recent years, AUTOCAD mapping has replaced the old way of doing things.  Through the aid of the computer, information can be developed in layers and when printing a map, you can now print only the information you desire by turning on wasted sites.  Possibly you want to create sanitary district maps, voter registration, and for the highway department, snow removal routes.  It's endless to the amount of layers you might want to develop.  these layers can also be keyed to different colors.
